Economic Opportunities Council of Indian River County, Inc. - LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program)

LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) is available through Economic Opportunities Council of Indian County, Inc.

  • Funding priorities are a disconnect notice or final notice received, priority target groups include; age 60 or over, and/or person has a disability; and/or at least one child under 5 in the home
  • Households is eligible for benefits once a year
  • Must meet household poverty income guidelines of 150%
  • Provides eligible households assistance in meeting the cost of home energy & helps resolve a home energy “crisis”

Homeless Family Center - Emergency Housing

Emergency Housing is available to homeless families. This program is limited to a 90 day stay. Clients who are able are required to work full time and children are enrolled in daycare/school.

Homeless Family Center - Transitional Housing

Transitional Housing is available to homeless families. This is for those who require a longer period of time to get back on their feet. This program can be extended as two years, as long as the client continues to follow house rules and work with case management. In this program, more intense case management is provided with emphasis:

  • Affordable Housing
  • Job Skills (Employment and Training)
  • Realistic Budgeting

The Samaritan Center

The Samaritan Center is a non-profit organization. They provide shelter and support for homeless families of Indian River County.

Services Provided:

  • After Care Service up to eighteen months
  • Case Management
  • Counseling
  • Educational Workshops
  • Employment Counseling
  • Financial Management
  • Housing
  • Liaison with other agencies
  • Parenting Class
  • Transportation

Staff Assists Residents:

  • Educational Workshops
  • Future Planning
  • Obtain employment
  • Permanent Housing
  • Upkeep of personal living quarters

Requirements:

  • Families must have a child, children or expecting a child
  • Family members must be drug free (90 days)
  • Must be homeless or living in an unsafe environment
  • One family member must be over eighteen years of age

The Source - Housing

The Source helps men, women, and children who have nowhere else to go. They provide a range of services to the homeless within the community. Call for more information.

Housing:

  • Cold night shelter at The Source when the temperature is forecasted to fall below 35 degrees
  • Emergency shelter arrangements
  • Housewarming goods for the formerly homeless
  • Permanent housing solutions
  • Referrals for rental assistance to prevent impending homelessness
  • Referrals for Utility bill payment assistance
  • Temporary housing assistance
