Access Florida - Food Stamps, Temporary Cash Assistance, and Medicaid

The Food Stamp Program helps people with low income to buy healthy food. The application can be done online. Please see the website for your local service center. The application is also used for Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid, and all other Dept of Children and Families services.

You can view the application in English, Haitian-Creole, or Spanish.

American Red Cross North Central Florida Chapter - Safe & Well Services

The Safe and Well website is a service for people in disaster areas in the U.S. They can register their current status if they are in a disaster area. You can check on a friend or relative that is in a disaster area as well. Status messages can be left for others to read. Please see the website for more information.

Bread of the Mighty Food Bank - Food Bank

Bread of the Mighty Food Bank (BMFB) has 150+ agency partners that include, soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, churches, etc. These agencies then give food to those in need within their communities. BMFB also has 15 after-school snack sites in Alachua County. These after-school sites provide tutoring and help with homework. The Summer Lunch Program serves 34 sites in four counties. BMFB also offers help to those applying for Food Stamps (SNAP).

Services include:

  • BMFB Service area: Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette and Levy counties
  • After School Snack Program – serves 15 sites in Alachua County
  • SNAP Outreach – Food Stamp Assistance
  • Gainesville Harvest
  • Mobile Pantries – 20+ locations monthly
  • Summer Lunch Program sites – Alachua, Gilchrist, Levy and Marion counties
  • Hours of Operation: Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (agency hours 8:00 am – 2:00 pm)

Services include:

  • After School Snack Program - serves 16 sites in Alachua County
  • Backpack Program - weekend meals and snacks in Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist and Levy Counties
  • SNAP - Food Stamp Assistance
  • Summer Lunch Program - sites in Alachua, Levy, Gilchrist and Marion Counties

Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida - Employment Services

This agency helps people with disabilities with a broad range of services. The goal is to enable them to live as independently as possible. Sign language interpreting services are available. Some Medicaid recipients may be eligible to transfer from a nursing home to their own home.

Children's Home Society of Florida - Family Treasures Thrift Shop

Staffed almost entirely by volunteers. The Family Treasures Thrift Shop is a community effort. It is stocked with carefully selected donated items. All of our profits go toward helping Children's Home Society of Florida create stronger families and brighter futures for children throughout mid-Florida. Stores provide free items to families involved in CHS programs. Please call for more information.
