Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches provides social services to children and families from trained counselors. Youth are cared for by "cottage parents" who helps them. Each child must be recommended by the local Sheriff. Please call 386.842.5501 or visit website for more information.
This agency has a mobile camping program. It combines Summer Camp and Youth Camp and offers it to areas that may be socially and/or economically challenged. The aim of this program is to teach youth how to use their free time in a positive manner. It also helps teaching to accept others and appreciate the cultural differences of all. The Able Trust Florida High School High Tech (HSHT) program provides opportunities for students with disabilities and other barriers to explore potential future careers. The program is designed to help students determine their interests and aptitudes, offer job-shadowing and internships, and provide leadership opportunities. HSHT has been shown to reduce high school dropout rates and increase the overall self-esteem of participating students.
The Able Trust Florida HS/HT is an initiative of the US Department of Labor and the Able Trust. The program is currently offered at high schools in Charlotte, Glades, Hendry, and Lee Counties.
