ACL - Connecting People to Services

The Administration for Community Living or ACL for short. The group believes that services should be strong enough so individuals can be supported in their own home. Or other community-based settings. The group does not help people directly but has several programs to help connect them with services that do. These programs help older adults and people with disabilities. Helps them find supports and services that are needed to successfully live in their communities. American Cancer Society - Supportive Services

The American Cancer Society offers a range of services to those with cancer. Someone is available to talk to 24 hours a day. You may also chat live with someone online.

Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida - Resource Center

The agency is a disability resource center. They help individuals with disabilities exert their rights to live as independently as possible. Marion Senior Services - Marion Transit Services

Marion Transit Services provide public transportation. This includes services for the transportation disadvantaged. They also help other sponsored and non-sponsored program recipients in Marion County on an advance reservation basis.

Service is provided according to the following needs as space is available:

  • Medical Needs
  • Recreational
  • Work

Services Provided By Drivers:
Drivers will help passengers from their doorway into the vehicle. They will also help them from the vehicle to the main entrance of their destination. Most vans are wheelchair equipped. Drivers cannot assist wheelchairs over more than one step or curb. Wheelchairs must not be any wider than 31 inches. Oxygen bottles may be taken if securely attached to the wheelchair or in a small bottle carried by passenger.

Service Animals & Escorts:

National Kidney Foundation of Florida, Inc. - Direct Aid Program

This agency helps dialysis patients with transportation costs not covered by other resources. Patients may use grants to travel to and from dialysis treatment, or for transplant work-ups. This is a funding of "last resort." Social workers must complete the NKF Application for Financial Assistance for the patient. Please see the website for more details.

National Runaway Safeline - Home Free Program

The Home Free Program helps runaway, homeless, and exploited youth return home safely. Or helps them get to a stable place where they can receive appropriate services. This is done through a free bus ticket. The group partners with Greyhound Lines, Inc. to provide the ticket. Eligibility and restrictions apply.
