Immigrant Family Services - Alachua County Public Schools

Alachua County Public Schools offers services and support programs for eligible immigrant students and families. The term "eligible immigrant student" is defined as a student who:
(a) is 3-21 years old;
(b) was not born in any state, Washington, DC or Puerto Rico; (children of military personnel who were born outside these territories are considered immigrant for the purposes of this program)
(c) has not been attending any one or more schools in the United States for more than 3 full academic years.

Some of the services offered include:

Jacksonville Area Legal Aid - The Baker Defense Project

This project under JALA provides legal aid to certain inmates of the Baker County Jail. This service helps inmates in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). JALA provides lectures, free attorney meetings and services. Please be aware that legal aid for this project is limited. Priority will be given to clients that could be deported. Priority will be given in these cases:

  • Detainee has been a resident of the U.S. for a significant amount of time
  • Detainee is a victim of domestic violence, human trafficking or other crime
  • Detainee is seeking asylum or relief under the UN Convention Against Torture
  • Detainee served in the U.S. military
  • Detainee has extensive family ties in the U.S.

Catholic Charities Diocese of Palm Beach - Immigration Legal Services

This program provides services to foreign-born individuals. They must be in need of immigration assistance. The program’s focus is primarily on family reunification and includes the following:

  • Adjustment application before the Immigration & Naturalization (I-485)
  • Affirmative Asylum Applications
  • Assistance with Consular process
  • Employment authorization under various programs
  • Family Petitions (I-130)
  • Family Reunification
  • Fiancée Visa
  • Limited court representations
  • NACARA applications
  • Naturalization applications
  • Re-entry permits
  • Removal of conditional residence
  • Special Immigrant Petitions (Juveniles)
  • Temporary Protective Status
  • VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) self petitions

Diocese of Saint Augustine - Refugee Resettlement Program

Diocese of St. Augustine provides the Refugee Resettlement Program.

The program assists local families and individuals who:

  • Enter the United States as refugees, Cuban/Haitian entrants or parolees
  • Resettled refugees without sponsoring family members in the United States, and foreign nationals in the United States who have been granted asylum by the Immigration Courts

They help refugees become self-sufficient within 3 to 4 months of arrival.

Their services include assistance in:

  • Airport reception
  • Assistance with housing
  • Education
  • ESL
  • Food
  • Furniture
  • Job readiness
  • Limited financial assistance
