Access Florida - Food Stamps, Temporary Cash Assistance, and Medicaid

The Food Stamp Program helps people with low income to buy healthy food. The application can be done online. Please see the website for your local service center. The application is also used for Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid, and all other Dept of Children and Families services.

You can view the application in English, Haitian-Creole, or Spanish.

Children's Medical Services - Fort Pierce Area

Provides Specialty Medical Care for children ages 0-21 years of age with chronic medical conditions that may hinder normal growth and development. Appointments are made by phone.

Hours of Operation: Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm, Saturday thru Sunday CLOSED

The state of Florida offers health insurance for children from birth through age 18, even if one or both parents are working. It includes four different parts.

St. Lucie County Health Department - Adult Health Care

St. Lucie County Health Department provides a range of health services to the community at an affordable rate. They offer basic primary care for adults of all ages.

Services include:

  • Healthy education and counseling
  • Management and treatment of chronic diseases (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, thyroid condition)
  • Physicals
  • Referrals for specialty care
  • Treatment of minor acute illness such as cold and flu

Medicaid and Medicare are accepted. Bloodwork is drawn in house for established patients. Please call to make an appointment.

St. Lucie County Health Department - Family Planning

St. Lucie County Health Department provides Family Planning. Fees are based on a sliding scale. Medicaid is also accepted. Services include:

  • Annual exams
  • Counseling and referrals for community services
  • Education
  • HIV testing
  • Issuance of various types of contraception (i.e. contraceptives, depo provera injections, emergency contraception, condoms, prescriptions for other methods and referrals for tubal ligations and vasectomies
  • Pap smears
  • Testing for sexually transmitted diseases

St. Lucie County Health Department - Presumptive Eligibilty for Pregnant Women (PEPW)

PEPW is a Medicaid eligibility subprogram. It may allow an uninsured pregnant woman to get immediate pregnancy-related outpatient services. This is given while the eligibility for Florida Medicaid is being determined. You may apply for PEPW at the County Health Department. Call for more information.
