Jacksonville Area Legal Aid - The Baker Defense Project

This project under JALA provides legal aid to certain inmates of the Baker County Jail. This service helps inmates in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). JALA provides lectures, free attorney meetings and services. Please be aware that legal aid for this project is limited. Priority will be given to clients that could be deported. Please see the website for more information.

Priority will be given in these cases:

  • Detainee has been a resident of the U.S. for a significant amount of time
  • Detainee is a victim of domestic violence, human trafficking or other crime
  • Detainee is seeking asylum or relief under the UN Convention Against Torture
  • Detainee served in the U.S. military
  • Detainee has extensive family ties in the U.S.

Customer Employment Program - Division of Vocational Rehabilitation

This agency helps people with disabilities to get and keep a job. If you are accepted for the program, a counselor will help you plan your “road map to success”. Each plan is catered to the client’s needs. The website has useful videos. There is one with a sign language interpreter for the hearing impaired. Captions are available in English, Spanish and Creole.
