DCF - Alcohol, Substance Abuse, and Mental Health

This program's aim is the prevention, treatment and recovery of persons with mental illness and/or substance abuse issues.

Substance abuse services include education. This, along with counseling, addresses the factors that lead to substance abuse. Treatment may be either inpatient or outpatient and include support services. Certain medical and clinical procedures are used in each patient's detox program.

Mental health services treat children and adults. These may include outpatient, residential and acute care services.

Veterans can get help through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center - Adaptive Telephone Equipment Loan Program

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center offers equipment on long-term loan with Florida residents. Residents must be hard of hearing, deaf, deaf/blind, or speech challenged. The equipment is offered at no charge to the consumer.

Equipment offered include:

  • Volume/Tone Control Phones
  • Volume/Visual Phone Signalers

Department fof Veterans Affairs - Healthcare for Homeless Veterans

The goal of the VA is to end veteran homelessness by 2015. They provide a broad range of services to help veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The staff work with veterans to link them with local resources and programs. They have many health care programs for homeless Vets. The DeSoto County Health Department provides medical and dental services to those in need. Clinic Services are provided on a sliding fee scale basis. Immunizations are free for children under age 18.
