Domestic Violence & Human Trafficking - Lucha

AIJ provides free legal help for women survivors of violence. Some immigrant women are in an abusive relationship. Other women get trapped into human trafficking. AIJ can help these women with legal status issues and to get the help they need to remain in the U.S. AIJ has special programs to help Hispanic and Haitian clients. Jacksonville Area Legal Aid - The Baker Defense Project

This project under JALA provides legal aid to certain inmates of the Baker County Jail. It is for those in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). JALA provides lectures, free attorney meetings and services to foreign nationals. Please be aware that legal aid for this project is limited. Priority will be given to certain clients in danger of being deported. Please see the website for more information.

Priority will be given in these cases:

  • Detainee has been a resident of the U.S. for a significant amount of time
  • Detainee is a victim of domestic violence, human trafficking or other crime
  • Detainee is seeking asylum or relief under the UN Convention Against Torture
  • Detainee served in the U.S. military
  • Detainee has extensive family ties in the U.S.
