Domestic Violence & Human Trafficking (Lucha) Program-Americans for Immigrant Justice

Lucha is for those dealing with domestic violence and human trafficking. There is free legal help for immigrants. You can get healthcare and mental health counseling. Jacksonville Area Legal Aid - The Baker Defense Project

This project under JALA provides legal aid to certain inmates of the Baker County Jail. This service helps inmates in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). JALA provides lectures, free attorney meetings and services. Please be aware that legal aid for this project is limited. Priority will be given to clients that could be deported. Priority will be given in these cases:

  • Detainee has been a resident of the U.S. for a significant amount of time
  • Detainee is a victim of domestic violence, human trafficking or other crime
  • Detainee is seeking asylum or relief under the UN Convention Against Torture
  • Detainee served in the U.S. military
  • Detainee has extensive family ties in the U.S.
