Big Bend Cares provides Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA), offers assistance to stay where you are or find other housing.

The lifeline assistance program provides free cell phone service to low-income customers. Those who qualify also receive a free phone. There is a limit of one account per household. Other terms may apply. Visit the website to learn more.
LIHEAP helps low-income households with the cost of utilities. They also offer help with crisis assistance. The amount of help given to each case is based on the national poverty guidelines. LIHEAP gives priority to cases that deal with the elderly, the disabled, or children under 5 years of age. Please call or visit the website to learn more. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps people pay their energy costs when they have an unpaid energy bill. The program works to help low-income families. For the first half of the month, LIHEAP gives priority to single mothers, those aged 60 or older, the disabled, and children under five years of age. All other clients are served the second half of the month. They can help every six months, once in the winter and once in the summer.
Matthew’s Nursery is a program that helps babies up to one year old. They give families in need items for babies that help to keep them clean, comfortable, and safe. The Birth Cottage provides midwife services to pregnant women in need. All insurance companies, HMOs and Medicaid cover all or most of the fees. Payment plans are available.
