Sarasota County Health Department provides a range of health services. The cost of service depends on your ability to pay. Some services are always free. Healthy Start is a program that screens pregnant women and newborn babies to identify risk factors for low birth weight and infant mortality. Healthy Start is free and available to everyone regardless of income. A team of nurses, social workers, and peer counselors assist families in finding out their needs. Classes are in English and Spanish. No appointment is needed.

The Centers for Healthy Aging provide quality care for individuals 50+ who are uninsured or in financial need. Most sites accept Medicare. Patient fees are on a sliding scale based on ability to pay. Due to increasing demand, waiting lists may apply. Over the past two years, some patients experienced waits of up to three months or more for an appointment.
