Sarasota County Health Department provides a range of health services. The cost of service depends on your ability to pay. Some services are always free. Other services may require you to pay if you have the ability. Your ability to pay is determined by the Eligibility office. Please visit SCHD website for Costs & Eligibility. Services are available to anyone (no eligibility requirements, though some require financial screening and/or fees for services):

Sarasota County Health Department - Healthy Start

Healthy Start is a program that screens pregnant women and newborn babies to identify risk factors for low birth weight and infant mortality. Healthy Start is free and available to everyone regardless of income. A team of nurses, social workers, and peer counselors assist families in finding out their needs. Classes are in English and Spanish. No appointment is needed.

Senior Friendship Centers - Resources for Aging

The Centers for Healthy Aging provide quality care for individuals 50+ who are uninsured or in financial need. Most sites accept Medicare. Patient fees are on a sliding scale based on ability to pay. Due to increasing demand, waiting lists may apply. Over the past two years, some patients experienced waits of up to three months or more for an appointment.
