Access Florida - Florida Department of Children and Families

Access Florida has the Food Stamp Program(EBT) that helps people with low income to buy healthy food. The application can be done online. Please see the website for your local service center. The application is also used for Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid, and all other Department of Children and Families services.

Adult Health Care

This program provides physicals for employment and school entrance. They provide adult immunizations. Patients can get TB skin testing.

Screenings for chronic disease (hypertension, diabetes, heart disease) are done at the Adult Health Clinic and on a mobile unit.

Medications for Epilepsy, Diabetes, and HIV are provided through special state programs.

Appointments are made by phone. English/Spanish/Haitian Creole languages spoken.

Childrens Immunizations - Health Dept.

The goal of this program is to protect children early in life by immunizing them against vaccine-preventable diseases. Routine childhood immunizations are free for any child through age 18, regardless of family income. Some vaccines (shots) need to be given more than once to protect your child.

Shots are free for children age 4 weeks through age 18 years. There is no appointment necessary. The office hours are Monday through Friday 8am to 5 pm except on the 4th Friday.

Family Planning - Manatee Co. Health Dept.

This program offers a variety of birth control methods. It also offers pregnancy testing and referrals. Each person requesting birth control receives

Extensive counseling
Initial and annual physical examination(s)
HIV risk assessment and counseling (confidential or anonymous testing is available, if desired)
Urinalysis, and testing for anemia
Testing for sexually transmitted diseases

The state offers health insurance for children. From birth through age 18. It is free to apply. Enrollment is year-round. Each child is matched with the best fit of four Florida KidCare programs.
